Ajani Russell solo exhibition at ART YARD BKLYN: Drawing The Line
The Gallery
atART YARD BKLYN (AYB) is a Bed-Stuy nonprofit that's provided free contemporary visual art education to underserved and marginalized artists of all ages for years. We're opening our first solo exhibition on September 26: Ajani Russell: Drawing The Line. Ajani first walked into AYB as an elementary school student. A decade-plus later, they've exhibited at Elga Wimmer Gallery and Flux Factory, done creative direction for Air Jordan and HBO, been featured in Interview Magazine and Hypebeast — and are now an AYB board member and teaching artist. This solo show is, in a sense, the organization watching one of its own come full circle. The exhibition itself brings together a decade of ink-on-paper drawings — dense, immersive fields of figures, fantastical creatures, and fragments that Ajani made during conversations, travel, and solitude. It's less a show of finished pieces than a visual record of memory and attention.
