Natural Gas Detector Installation Deadline for NYC Residential Buildings

The New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) is reminding the public about the city’s new requirement for natural gas detectors in residential buildings going into effect on January 1, 2027. Property owners must provide and install code-compliant natural gas alarms in every dwelling unit by this date. These detectors monitor the air for methane and alert occupants of dangerous conditions.
